In order to discuss the project for reconstruction of Almaty TPP-3, a three-party meeting was held on August 20, 2024 between the management of Almaty Power Stations JSC, Machine-Building Factory of Podolsk JSC and the EPC Contractor - a Consortium consisting of KBI Energy Group LLP and Energo Spets Stroy LLP.

Based on the results of the negotiations, General Director of JSC ZiO M.N. Sdobnov and General Director of Energo Spets Stroy LLP Pusko N.G. signed a memorandum of cooperation. The agreement provides for localization in the Republic of Kazakhstan of up to 50% of the volume of the main manufactured components of heat recovery boilers equipment for Almaty TPP-3.

Reconstruction of Almaty TPP-3 will increase the capacity of the power station from 173 MW to 500 MW and will help cover the power deficit at peak consumption loads in the city of Almaty and Almaty region. One of the key aspects of the project is the replacement of outdated pulverized coal equipment, which has exceeded its life cycle, with modern environmentally friendly combined cycle power units running on natural gas.
Commissioning of the new TPP-3 is scheduled for 2026.
